Palawan is ‘world’s best island’ anew PDF Print E-mail

For the second straight year, the island of Palawan, home to the world-renowned Puerto Princesa Underground River, was hailed the top island destination in the world in a poll by an award-winning US travel magazine.

In Conde Nast Traveler’s (CNT) Readers’ Choice Awards 2015, Palawan bested 19 other world-famous islands, including Bora Bora (2nd) and Moorea (3rd) in French Polynesia, , Bermuda (5th), Bali in Indonesia (8th), Santorini in Greece (9th), British Virgin Islands (12th), and Maldives (16th).

Puerto Princesa (CNN Philippines) — The Puerto Princesa City Council ratified on Monday (July 27) an ordinance declaring two coral reef sites as marine sanctuaries.

These are Tangdol Reef, which covers 22.19 hectares in Barangay Bancao-Bancao, and Tagkuti Reef, which covers 62.5 hectares in Barangay Siimpokan.

A new accommodation concept is taking shape in the Palawan capital of Puerto Princersa. The Canvas Boutique Hotel will have gallery spaces, an art walk, and a trendy restaurant. It will also appeal to business travelers  looking for a comfortable working environment, and to leisure travelers who want to unwind after touring central Palawan’s many attractions.

Rooms at the Canvas will be adorned by murals by up and coming Filipino artists Nice Buenaventura, Hannah Liongoren, and Tof  Zapanta of Human Projector. They will also be bathed in natural light and outfitted with modern furniture and adjustable lighting.

The world's richest man Bill Gates visited the country this past week, a report on GMA's “24 Oras” program said Wednesday.

GMA News was able to obtain an exclusive photo of a helicopter owned by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, Laguna.

MANILA, Philippines — A 13-storey cruise liner went on its maiden port-of-call to Puerto Princesa, Palawan, in a key move establishing the Philippines as a cruise destination.

Local officials including Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez and Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison welcomed Star Cruises' MV SuperStar Aquarius as it dropped anchor in the island province's capital late Monday.
